Allen Honored by UAA and D3hoops.com

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – For the third time this season, Carnegie Mellon University men's basketball sophomore Justin Allen was honored by D3hoops.com on the Team of the Week as well as being named University Athletic Association (UAA) Athlete of the Week. Allen helped the Tartans to a pair of UAA road wins over the weekend. The Tartans opened the weekend with an 80-77 win at Brandeis before topping 11th-ranked NYU on Sunday afternoon to complete the season series sweep over the Violets.

Allen averaged 27.0 points while shooting 55.9% (19-34) from the floor, 60.0% (6-10) from behind the arc and converted 10-of-13 from the foul line for 76.9%. Against Brandeis, Allen was held scoreless in the first half and to only two shot attempts. The UAA leading scorer then finished with a game-high 25 points on 8-of-14 shooting from the floor, including scoring the final five points of the game for the Tartans. In the win at NYU, the sophomore poured in a game-high 29 points on 11-of-20 shooting. Allen has now scored 20 or more points in six straight games and in seven in the last eight.

Allen is the first Tartan in program history to be recognized three times during the same season on the D3hoops.com Team of the Week and is tied for most honors all-time for a Tartan. During the 2015-16 season Jack Serbin received the honor twice as well as once during the 2014-15 season.

Carnegie Mellon will host the University of Rochester on Friday, February 16 with a tip at 7:30 p.m.
