Tartans Place Eighth at Annual Guy W. Kuhn Invitational

(MEADVILLE, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team competed in the two-day annual Guy W. Kuhn Invitational hosted at The Country Club of Meadville by Allegheny College.  After carding a team round of 319 Sunday, the Tartans improved 17 strokes on Monday firing a 302 for a 36-hole score of 621, placing them eighth in the field of 19 teams.

Wittenberg University won the 36-hole event with a 595. University Athletic Association foe Rochester placed second (599) followed by Allegheny (601), Dennison (608), DePauw (614), Ohio Wesleyan (616) and Wooster (620) followed by the Tartans to round out the top eight.  

For the second straight year at the event, Sophomore Ian Bangor (Moon Township, Pa./Sewickley Academy) led the way for the Tartans, as he fired a four-over par 146 to place tied for third.  On Monday, Bangor tied for the lowest round of the tournament after shooting a three-under 69.

After shooting an 80 in the opening round, senior Michael Cheng (Woodbury, N.Y./Syosset) improved four strokes on day two ending with a 156, placing 32nd. Freshman Justin Fischler (Avon, Conn.) improved six strokes on Monday after carding an 82 Sunday to finish with a 160.

Sophomore Grant Strimel (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) fired rounds of 79 and 82, to finish the event with a 161 while senior Terence Einhorn (Greenwich, Conn./Brunswick) carded rounds of 84 and 80 for a 164.

The Tartans will host the Carnegie Mellon Fall Invitational, Thursday, September 29 at the Longue Vue Club.
