Golf Wins Grove City Fall Invitational
(GROVE CITY, Pa.) – Sophomore Ian Bangor (Moon Township, Pa./Sewickley Academy) finished second as an individual with a two-over par 74, in leading the Carnegie Mellon University golf team to a first-place finish at the Grove City Invitational on Tuesday, September 13. The 18-hole event was held at the Grove City Country Club. The Tartans fired a 314 as a team.
Point Park tied the Tartans with a score of 314, but the Cardinal and Gray were crowned team champions due to a better score by the No. 5 golfer. Tying for third was the host Wolverines and fellow Presidents' Athletic Conference foe St. Vincent, as they fired a 317.
Freshman Justin Fischler (Avon, Conn.) carded a 77 in his first collegiate outing to finish tied for fourth place in the field of 53. Senior Michael Cheng (Woodbury, N.Y./Syosset) carded an 81 while senior Terence Einhorn (Greenwich, Conn./Brunswick) and freshman Derek Cobb (Urbana, Ohio) had rounds of 82 and 84, respectively.
The Tartans entered a B team into the invitational and placed fifth with a team score of 319. Leading the way was sophomore Grant Strimel (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) and freshman Cameron Low (Los Angeles, Calif./Windward), who tied for seventh after firing a 78.
One stroke behind Strimel, firing a 79, was sophomore Jisoo Park (Dix Hills, N.Y./Pendleton). Freshman Matt Isler (Southlake, Texas/Carroll Senior) and sophomore Alex Fry (Grand Island, N.Y.) rounded out the scoring with rounds of 80 and 83.
The Tartans will hit the links September 18-19, as they compete at the annual Guy Kuhn Invitational at the Meadville Country Club in Meadville, Pa. The two-day event is hosted by Allegheny College.
