Einhorn’s One-Over Par Leads Tartans in Opening Round of UAA Championships

(SORRENTO, Fla.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team currently is in third place at the 2012 University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships following the first 18 holes of play.  On Tuesday, March 13 the Tartans fired a team score of 308.  The two-day, 36-hole event is being played at the Red Tail Golf Course in Sorrento, Fla. on the 6,768-yard, par-72 course.

Emory University currently leads the championship after carding a 289 followed by University of Rochester's 297. New York University fired a 316 and is in fourth. Defending UAA individual medalist Nicholas Palladino of Rochester sits atop the leader board after carding a round of four-under par 68.

The Tartans were led by senior Terence Einhorn's (Greenwich, Conn./Brunswick) one-over par 73, currently putting him in a tie for fifth overall. Senior Michael Cheng (Woodbury, N.Y./Syosset) carded a 77 which places him in a tie for 11th.    

Sophomore Ian Bangor (Moon Township, Pa./Sewickley Academy) and freshman Justin Fischler (Avon, Conn.) both fired rounds of 79 while sophomore Grant Strimel (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) shot an 80.

Day two continues tomorrow with the first group teeing off at 9:30 a.m.
