Tartans Place Second at Fall Invitational

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team hosted its Fall Invitational Thursday, October 6 at the Longue Vue Club and finished second with a team score of 308. Washington & Jefferson shot a 307 to claim top honors on the par 70 course.

Sophomore Ian Bangor (Moon Township, Pa./Sewickley Academy) claimed top individual medalist after carding a two-over par 72.  Bangor tied with Colin Izzo of Washington & Jefferson, but won the tiebreaker for having the lower score on hole 17, the hardest handicap hole on the course.  The sophomore recorded par, as Izzo carded a bogey.

Freshman Justin Fischler (Avon, Conn.) placed seventh after firing a 77 followed by senior Terence Einhorn's (Greenwich, Conn./Brunswick) 78. Freshman Derek Cobb (Urbana, Ohio) scored an 81 while senior Michael Cheng (Woodbury, N.Y./Syosset) rounded out the Tartans team scoring with an 85.

Carnegie Mellon also had seven individuals play on Thursday with freshman Cameron Low (Los Angeles, Calif./Windward) placing third overall with a career-best round 75. Freshman Matt Isler (Southlake, Texas/Carroll Senior) tied Fischler with a 77 and Austin Cheng (Chester, N.J./Phillips Exeter Academy) shot an 81.
 
Sophomores Grant Strimel (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) and Alex Fry (Grand Island, N.Y.) both carded rounds of 83. Sophomore Matt Wilson (Orange, Calif./Villa Park) shot an 88 and sophomore Jisoo Park (Dix Hills, N.Y./Pendleton) ended the day with a 90.
