Golf in 5th After First Round of Hal Hansen Invitational

(CLARION, PA.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team competed at the first day of the Hal Hansen Invitational Sunday afternoon hosted at the par 72 Clarion Oaks Golf Club by Clarion University.  The Tartans, the lone Division III school, are in fifth-place following day one of action after carding a team score of 302.

West Chester had the low team round of the day with a 286. Davis & Elkins is five strokes off the lead after carding a 291 followed by Indiana (Pa.) (293) and Gannon (295) in front of the Tartans.  

The Tartans were led by sophomore Justin Fischler (Avon, Conn.) who carded a two-over par 74.  Juniors Ian Bangor (Moon Township, Pa./Sewickley Academy) and Grant Strimel (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) sit a stroke behind Fischler after each firing a 75. Freshman Ben DuCarme (McMurray, Pa./Canon-McMillan) shot a 78 while sophomore Cameron Low (Los Angeles, Calif./Windward) ended the day with an 80.

Carnegie Mellon had one individual enter the invitational, as sophomore Derek Cobb (Urbana, Ohio) had a round of 84 Sunday afternoon.

Day two continues tomorrow with the first group teeing off at 9:00 a.m.
