Golf Places Fifth at Hal Hansen Invitational

(CLARION, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team competed at the final day of the 36-hole Hal Hansen Invitational Monday, September 10 and fired a team score of 300 finishing with a team score of 602.  Clarion University was the host on the par 72 Clarion Oaks Golf Club.  The Tartans 602 tied them for fifth-place with Millersville as it also tied the fifth-best two-round team total in school history.

West Chester won the invitational with a 585 with Indiana (Pa.) finishing three strokes back with a 588.  Gannon placed third after carding a 591 as Davis & Elkins shot 594 followed by the Tartans and Millersville.  
    
For the second straight day, sophomore Justin Fischler (Avon, Conn.) led the Tartans with a one-under par 71, finishing with a 145 placing fourth out of a field of 63. Junior Ian Bangor (Moon Township, Pa./Sewickley Academy) shot a 78 Monday ending the 36-hole event with a 153.  After shooting a 78 in the opening round, Freshman Ben DuCarme (McMurray, Pa./Canon-McMillan) improved two strokes ending the Hal Hansen with a 154.

Junior Grant Strimel (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) and sophomore Cameron Low (Los Angeles, Calif./Windward) finished the invitational with a 155. Low improved five stroke in round two and carded a 75 on Monday afternoon

Carnegie Mellon had one individual enter the invitational, as sophomore Derek Cobb (Urbana, Ohio) had rounds of 84 and 81 to finish with a 165.

The Tartans will hit the links September 16-17, as they compete at the annual Guy Kuhn Invitational at the Meadville Country Club in Meadville, Pa.  The two-day event is hosted by Allegheny College.
