Bangor Places Second at UAA Championship After Playoff

(SORRENTO, Fla.) - Carnegie Mellon University junior Ian Bangor (Moon Township, Pa./Sewickley Academy) helped lead the Tartan men's golf team to a second-place tie at the University Athletic Association Championship on Monday, March 11 at Red Tail Country Club in Sorrento, Florida. Bangor tied for the top spot but fell at the second playoff hole to three-time individual medalist Nicholas Palladino of University of Rochester.

Bangor's team-low round of 75 tied him with Rochester's Nicholas Palladino and Dominick Schumacher which forced a playoff to decide the individual medalist. Bangor shot a team-low 146 for the championship as the Tartans carded a 36-hole score of 616, tying Emory University and finishing second behind Rochester's 609 score.

Monday's final round saw sophomore Cameron Low (Los Angeles, Calif./Windward) card a 76, an eight-stroke improvement from the first day, while sophomore Derek Cobb (Urbana, Ohio/Urbana) equaled his first day score with another 77 to finish second on the team with a two-day score of 154.

Freshman Ben DuCarme (McMurray, Pa./Canon-McMillan) bettered his first round score of 80 with a 78 on Monday to finish third on the team as sophomore Justin Fischler (Avon, Conn./Avon) shot an 80 in the second round for a two-day total of 162.

The Tartans will be back on the links Friday, March 15 as the will play in the opening round of the 54-hole Jekyl Island Collegiate in Jekyl Island, Ga.
