Tartans Make Cut at Jekyll Island Invitational

(JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team competed at the second day of the 2013 Jekyll Island Invitational Saturday, March 16.  The Tartans made the cut as they are tied with Birmingham Southern for 22nd place after 36-holes of play with a two-round total of 630. The three-day event is played on the 6,700-yard, par-72 Pine Lakes Course on Jekyll Island. The top 24 teams advanced to the third round of play.

For the second straight day, junior Ian Bangor (Moon Township, Pa./Sewickley Academy) led Carnegie Mellon.  The junior fired a 4-over-par 76 for a two-round total of 151. Sophomores Justin Fischler (Avon, Conn./Avon) and Cameron Low (Los Angeles, Calif./Windward) have a 36-hole total of 159.  Fischler carded a 78 while Low recorded an 82 on Saturday.

Freshman Ben DuCarme (McMurray, Pa./Canon-McMillan) shot an 81 while sophomore Derek Cobb (Urbana, Ohio/Urbana) shot an 83. DuCarme has a two-round score of 162 as Cobb has a 163.
 
In a field that includes 12 of the top 25 Division III teams in the country, Illinois Wesleyan leads the field with a 587. Methodist University sits second with a 593 while the defending national champion and host Oglethorpe University is one-stroke of Methodist.

The Tartans will conclude the 54-hole invitational Sunday morning with a teeing off at 8:00 a.m.
