Tartans Led by Bangor at Jekyll Island Invitational

(JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team finished 25th out of 30 teams at the 2013 Jekyll Island Invitational Sunday, March 17.  The three-day, 54-hole event was held at the par-72 Pine Lakes Course on Jekyll Island.  The Tartans finished with a 54-hole team score of 948 after carding a 318 Sunday afternoon.

Capturing the invitational title was Illinois Wesleyan with a score of 882 while Methodist University finished second (890) and defending national champion and host Oglethorpe University took third carding an 893.

Junior Ian Bangor (Moon Township, Pa./Sewickley Academy) finished as the team's top performer with a 225 (75-76-74) placing 18th out of 150 golfers.  His two-over par 74 Sunday was the Cardinal and Gray's lowest of the tournament and was tied for the 12th best round of the day.

Sophomore Cameron Low (Los Angeles, Calif./Windward) ended play with a 240 (77-82-81) while fellow sophomore Derek Cobb (Urbana, Ohio/Urbana) had a 54-hole total of 243 (80-83-80).  Freshman Ben DuCarme (McMurray, Pa./Canon-McMillan) recorded a 245 (81-81-83) and sophomore Justin Fischler (Avon, Conn./Avon) ended the event with a 247 (81-78-88).

The Tartans will hit the links March 25, as they compete at the annual Titan Spring Invitational hosted by Westminster College at the New Castle Country Club.
