Tartans Place Fourth at Edward Jones Shootout

(APOLLO, Pa.) – At the final day of the Edward Jones Shootout Sunday, April 14, the Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team shot a 306 on day two to place fourth.  The Tartans ended the 36-hole event with a team score of 618.  Point Park won the two-day event that was held at the par-70, The Links @ Spring Church in Apollo, Pa. with a team score of 600.

Oliver White from Allegheny College won the event with a 36-hole score of 145 (75-70).  Behind Point Park in the standings was Allegheny with a 601 followed by St. Vincent with a 608.

The Tartans were led by junior Ian Bangor (Moon Township, Pa./Sewickley Academy), as he carded a 151 (74-77), tying for fourth. Freshman Ben DuCarme (McMurray, Pa./Canon-McMillan) finished the tournament tied for ninth-place with a 153 (79-74).

Sophomore Cameron Low (Los Angeles, Calif./Windward) and junior Grant Strimel (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) entered the clubhouse two strokes apart.  Low fired a 157 (81-76) while Strimel shot a 159 (80-79).

There were six individuals that entered the invitational for the Tartans.  Senior Jisoo Park (Dix Hills, N.Y./Pendleton School) led the group with a 155 (77-78). Junior Matt Wilson (Orange, Calif./Villa Park) and sophomore Justin Fischler (Avon, Conn.) both shot back-to-back rounds of 79 to end with a 158. Sophomore Austin Cheng (Chester, N.J./Phillips Exeter Academy) carded a 160 (82-78), freshman Brian Chren (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla./The Pendleton School) shot a 166 (88-78) and junior Alexander Fry (Grand Island, N.Y.) ended with a 169 (87-82).

The Tartans will hit the links again on Thursday, April 18 when they head to the Bearcat Invitational hosted by St. Vincent College at the Latrobe Country Club.
