Men’s Golf Wins Last Outing of Season

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team hosted their Annual Invitational Thursday, April 25 at the Longue Vue Country Club. The Tartans placed first with a team score of 315, one stroke ahead of Division II California University of Pennsylvania.  The Tartans entered a second team into the invitational, as they finished third with a score of 324.

For the second straight season, junior Ian Bangor (Moon Township, Pa./Sewickley Academy) was the individual medalist at the spring invitational after carding a three-over par 73.  The win marked Bangor's school leading ninth of his career.

Freshman Ben DuCarme (McMurray, Pa./Canon-McMillan) finished the round tied for third with a 76.  Junior Grant Strimel (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) and sophomore Cameron Low (Los Angeles, Calif./Windward) each fired an 83 while senior Jisoo Park (Dix Hills, N.Y./Pendleton School) shot an 84.

Carnegie Mellon's B team was led by a second-place individual finish by sophomore Justin Fischler (Avon, Conn.) who carded a 75.  Sophomore Austin Cheng (Chester, N.J./Phillips Exeter Academy) finished the 18-hole event with a 78 followed by freshman Brian Chren (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla./The Pendleton School) and junior Matt Wilson (Orange, Calif./Villa Park) who fired an 85 and 86, respectively. Freshman Mason Struthers (DeKalb, Ill.) shot a 94.
