DuCarme and Bangor Named PING Mid-Atlantic All-Region; Bangor Named Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar

(DESTIN, Fla.) - The Carnegie Mellon University golf team had two members named to the 2013 PING Mid-Atlantic Region team by the Golf Coaches Association of America. Junior Ian Bangor (Moon Township, Pa./Sewickley Academy) and freshman Ben DuCarme (McMurray, Pa./Canon-McMillan) became the 10th and 11th Tartans to be honored as all-region.  This marks Bangor's third straight season accomplishing the honor. He was also was named a Division III Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar.

DuCarme finished the season with an average round of 77.6 through 19 rounds, the second lowest on the team.  The freshman was also second for the Tartans with five top-10 finishes while shooting a career-low round of two-under-par 69 at the Vulcan Invitational at the Cedarbrook Golf Course.    

Bangor, who has a grade-point average of 3.87, ended the regular season with an average score of 73.8 through 19 rounds while winning three tournaments.  He had season-low rounds of 69 on three occasions and set a Tartan record with a three-round score of three-under par 211 (69-69-73) at the Vulcan Invitational.  The junior is currently competing at the 2013 NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championships in Destin, Florida.

For his career, Bangor ranks first on the school's all-time charts with nine tournament wins and second with 15 top-three finishes.  He holds a career average of 75.1 through 57 rounds and set the Tartan record for the best two-round score his freshman campaign of 141 (3-under par) at the Guy Kuhn Invitational at Meadville Country Club.

To be eligible for Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar status, an individual must be a junior or senior academically and compete in at least two full years at the collegiate level, participate in 70 percent of his team's competitive rounds or compete in the NCAA Championships, have a stroke average under 79.0 in Division III and maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
