Bangor Named PING Third Team All-American

(NORMAN, Okla.) – Junior Ian Bangor (Moon Township, Pa./Sewickley Academy) of Carnegie Mellon University men's golf became the second golfer in school history to be named an All-American.  Bangor was recognized on the NCAA Division III PING All-America third team by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA).

Bangor joins his father, Paul, as the only other All-American in Tartan golf history, who earned the honor in 1985. Ian completed his junior season at the NCAA Men's Golf Championships, becoming the second player in school history to play as an individual at the championship, his father the other. He finished the season with a stroke average of 74.4, leading the Tartans for the third year.

Bangor raked in numerous other accolades throughout the season, as he was named to the PING Mid-Atlantic Region team for the third straight season, garnered Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar honors for the first time and was named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Capital One Academic All-America At-Large second team.

For the second year running, Bangor was tops on the team with eight top-ten finishes, six top-three finishes and three individual victories. He had three season-low rounds of 69 and set a Tartan record with a three-round score of three-under par 211 (69-69-73) at the Vulcan Invitational hosted by California University of Pennsylvania at the Cedarbrook Golf Course.

For his career, Bangor ranks first on the school's all-time charts with nine tournament wins and second with 15 top-three finishes.  He holds a career average of 75.3 through 59 rounds and the Tartan record for the best two-round score which he set his freshman campaign with a 141 (3-under par) at the Guy Kuhn Invitational at Meadville Country Club. Additionally, Bangor ranks first on the school's single-season list in top-three finishes with seven as well as tying for top-ten finishes with eight in each of the past two seasons.
