Men’s Golf Topped by Emory in Round One of Match Play at UAA Championships

(SORRENTO, Fla.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team competed at the University Athletics Association (UAA) Championships on Saturday, March 12 which is being held at Red Tail Country Club in Sorrento, Florida.  This year's championships are being played as a match play format and the Tartans dropped a 4-1 decision to Emory University on Saturday. Red Tail Country Club is a par-72 course and 6,768 yards.
    
Junior George Qian (Bettendorf, Iowa/Montverde Academy) defeated Keenan Hickton 5-and-4 to claim the Tartans lone point.  

Emory claimed victories with Stefano Butti defeating sophomore Nikhil Mohan (Bangalore, India/Canadian International School) 6-and-5. Connor Yakubov and Jonathan Gerrard also won 6-and-5 for the Eagles. Yakubov defeated sophomore Adrian Del Bosque (Monterrey, Mexico/IMG Academy) and Gerrard topped junior Jordan Klodowski (Kittanning, Pa.).

The deciding point was claimed by Anthony Muscato who defeated junior Alexander Pomerantz (Warren, N.J./Watchung Hills Regional), 1-up, by winning the 18th hole.

Carnegie Mellon junior Brad Jennette (Pittsford, N.Y./Sutherland) did not finish his match against Noah Apter.

Carnegie Mellon will face New York University on Sunday, March 13 for third place.  Tee times are set for 8:00 a.m.
