Men’s Golf Finishes Second at UAA Championship Match Play

(PALM COAST, Fla.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team competed at the University Athletics Association (UAA) Championship match play final Sunday against Emory University, the nation's top team, and dropped a hard fought 3-2 decision. The two-day, 36-hole championship was played at Hammock Beach Resort on the 6,776-yard, par-72 Conservatory Course in Palm Coast, Florida.

Sophomore Jason Li (Sewickley, Pa./Sewickley Academy) defeated Connor Yakubov 6-and-5 while freshman William Knauth (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport Area) picked up the Tartans other point. Knauth posted a 1-up win over Matt Organisak.

Both Li and Knauth were named to the All-Tournament team after each won both of their matches during the championships. It marked Li's second appearance on the squad after earning the accolade a year ago.

Two other Tartans participated in an individual event taking place among other golfers not participating in match play. Senior Patrick Tan (Vancouver, British Columbia/Prince of Wales Secondary) shot one-over par 73 on Sunday and finished with a 36-hole score of 151 (78-73). Freshman James Pak (Palisades Park, N.J./Bergen Catholic) carded a 164 (75-89).

The Tartans will next compete at the three-day Jekyll Island Invitational at Pine Lakes Golf Course in Jekyll Island, Georgia, beginning Friday, March 15.
