Tartans Set Four School Records on Way to Winning Savannah Invitational

(SAVANNAH, Ga.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team, ranked ninth nationally, won the Savannah Invitational after carding a school record 54-hole score of 833 (284-280-269) and topped the single round school record, which was set in round two, with a 19-under par 269 during the final round on Tuesday. The previous 54-hole program low was 864 that was accomplished in the fall at the Golfweek Fall Invitational.

The 18-team event featured three of the top four teams in the nation and was hosted by Berry College on the par 72, 6,845-yard The Club at Savannah Harbor Golf Course. Huntingdon College, ranked third, placed second with an 840 while University Athletic Association counterpart Emory, who is ranked second nationally, finished third with a 845.

Two individual records were also set on Tuesday with junior Jason Li (Sewickley, Pa./Sewickley Academy) tying the school record for the lowest individual round in the program's history, as he carded a six-under par 66 to lead the Tartans on Tuesday. Li ties his mark as well as freshman teammate Raymond Li's which were recorded in the fall.

Jason Li along with junior Jason Folker (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) broke the lowest individual 54-hole total in the program's history, as they ended with a 204. Li shot rounds of 70-68-66 while Folker carded rounds of 70-67-67. The two tied for second individually in a field of 90 golfers.

Sophomore Joshua Lim (San Francisco, Calif./Lowell) matched his career-best round with a three-under par 69 on Tuesday and tied for 10th overall with a 210 (69-72-69). In round three, sophomore William Knauth (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport Area) posted a career-best round of five-under par 67 and tied for 26th with a 215 (75-73-67).

Junior Jay Milch (Mount Kisco, N.Y./Fox Lane) ended the event strong, as he carded a 74 during Tuesday's round and ended with a 230 (75-81-74).

The Tartans had two individuals play in a 36-hole event at the Savannah Quarters Country Club. Freshman Raymond Li (Del Mar, Calif.) carded a 141 (69-72) while freshman Brian Li (Beijing, China/Blair Academy) shot a 153 (78-75).

The Tartans will be back on the links Saturday, March 14 when they compete at the University Athletic Association Championships. The two-day match play event is hosted by Emory University at Hammock Beach Resort on the Conservatory Course in Palm Coast, Florida.
