Tartans Open Spring at Savannah Invitational

(SAVANNAH, Ga.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team, ranked fifth nationally, competed in the opening day of The Savannah Invitational hosted by Berry College on Monday. The 54-hole event is being played at The Club at Savannah Harbor Golf Course. Following 36 holes of the 54-hole event, the Tartans are seventh after carding rounds of 300 and 295 for a 595 on Monday.

How it Happened:

  • After shooting an opening round score of three-over par 75, freshman David Zhang fired a one-under par 71 in round two to finish with a 146. He currently is the top Tartan and is tied for 16th individually in a field of 90 golfers.
  • Graduate student Henry Scavone also carded an open round score of three-over par 75 and then followed with a round of even par 72 for a 147.
  • Sophomore Justin Chan led the Cardinal and Gray in round one with a two-over par 74 and then carded a 76 for a 150.
  • Junior Brian Xu and freshman Andrew Wang each carded back-to-back rounds of 76 and will enter play on Tuesday with a 152.

Individuals Compete at Port City Invitational:

  • The Tartans had three individuals compete at the par 71, 6,715-yard Savannah Country Club with freshman Jay Saluja leading the trio after 36 holes with a 157 (77-80).
  • Seniors Joshua Lim  and Morgan Yang ended the first day of play with a 160. Lim carded rounds of 78 and 82 while Yang 79 and 81.
