Tartans Open The Visit Florence Intercollegiate with a Three-Under Par to Lead the Field

(MUSCLE SHORES, Ala.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team opened play at The Visit Florence Intercollegiate on Sunday. Following the first 18 holes of the 54-hole event, the Tartans lead the 12-team field after carding a three-under par 285.

How it Happened:

  • After shooting even par on the front nine, senior Brian Xu eagled hole 12 and recorded birdies on holes 14 and 17 Sunday to end the opening round with a four-under par 68. Xu sits atop the individual leaderboard in a field of 62 golfers.
  • Sophomore David Zhang is tied for sixth after firing a one-under par 71.
  • Junior Justin Chan and freshman Ryan Dannegger both entered the clubhouse with a one-over par 73.
  • Sophomore Jay Saluja carded a 77.
  • One individual competed for the Tartans with senior Stephen Dai carding an 81.
