Tartans Open Spring at Savannah Invitational; ‘B’ Team Wins Port City Classic

(SAVANNAH, Ga.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team competed in The Savannah Invitational hosted by Berry College on Monday and Tuesday. The 54-hole event was played at The Club at Savannah Harbor Golf Course. The Tartans placed ninth after carding rounds of 296, 286 and 299 for an 881.

How it Happened:

  • Senior Justin Chan shot an opening round score of even par 72 and followed with a three-under par 69 before carding his second round of even par in round three to lead the Tartans with a three-under par 213 over the 54-hole event. Chan placed tied for fourth individually in a field of 100 golfers
  • Junior David Zhang fired a one-under par 71 to open play and then carded rounds of 76 and even par 72 for a 54-hole score of 219.
  • Freshman Leonardo Vieira opened play with a 76 and then followed with a round of three-under par 69 and a 78 for a 223.
  • Freshman Will Blankenship shot a 77-72-77 for a 226.
  • Sophomore Steven Shea ended play with a 239 (82-77-80)

'B' Team Wins Port City Invitational:

  • The Tartans entered a 'B' team and one individual in the Port City Invite at the par 71, 6,739-yard Savannah Country Club with the Cardinal and Gray shooting a 54-hole score of 891 (298-298-295) and tied for first in a field of 17 teams.
  • Sophomore Ryan Dannegger led the 'B' team with a four over par 217 (72-72-73) and won individual medalist in a field of 94 golfers.
  • Junior Andrew Wang shot rounds of 77-70-76 for a 54-hole score of 223.
  • Freshman Andy Yu carded rounds of 71-78-75 for a 224.
  • Sophomore Justin Luan fired a 227 (78-78-71).
  • Junior Jay Saluja completed play with a 243 (79-83-81).
