(DELAWARE, Ohio) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's soccer team lost a tough match to #13 Ohio Wesleyan University Saturday, September 10 in Delaware, Ohio, as part of the Adidas Invitational hosted by the Battling Bishops. Ohio Wesleyan won the match 7-0 and advanced to 3-1 on the season while the Tartans fell to 1-2-1.
The Battling Bishops first got on the board 3:10 into the game when John Stegner collected a rebound off the crossbar and found Matt Bonfini for the score. The Bishops scored again in the 22nd minute to hold a 2-0 advantage at the break.
The home team added to their score in the first four minutes of the second period when Dylan Stone scored after a free kick by Travis Wall. Wall then scored four minutes later and again in the 65th minute to put the Bishops ahead 5-0.
The Tartans put three shots on goal in the second half with two coming from sophomore Chris Wysocki (Newtown, Pa./Germantown Academy).
The Bishops tallied their final two goals in the 70th and 87th minutes.
Carnegie Mellon returns home to face Westminster College at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 14.
