#13 Tartans Take Down #4 Ohio Northern 3-2

(ADA, Ohio) – An early second period goal gave the Carnegie Mellon University men's soccer team a 3-2 victory over #4 Ohio Northern University (ONU) Saturday afternoon on the Polar Bears' campus. The Tartans, ranked 13th in the nation, move to 3-1 on the year as ONU drops to 4-1.

A free kick for the Tartans in the fifth minute led to the first goal of the game and senior Alex Abedian's (Columbus, Ind./Columbus North) second goal of the season. Senior Ben Bryant (Toledo, Ohio/Ottawa Hills) earned the assist as he took the free kick that ended up free in the box for Abedian to finish.

The Polar Bears didn't let the deficit last long as they equalized in the sixth minute when Jeremy Barnes scored off a loose ball in the box.

In the 14th minute the Tartans were awarded a penalty kick which Bryant quietly barried in the back of the net for the 2-1 advantage.

The Tartans lead held until the 43rd minute when Barnes struck again off an assist from Keegan Ross to tie the score before halftime.

Six minutes into the second period, junior Max Tassano (Bala Cynwyd, Pa./Lower Merion) joined the scoring parade with his second of the season to give the Tartans a 3-2 lead. Tassano's strike ended as the game-winner as Tartan junior goalkeeper Christopher Madden (Reisterstown, Md./Calvert Hall) made two saves after the team's go-ahead goal to preserve the third win of the season for Carnegie Mellon.

"The team did a great job in rebounding from a tough loss Friday," head coach Arron Lujan said. "The effort has been great thus far and we [the coaching staff] are very proud of the team."

The Tartans will be on the pitch again on Wednesday, September 12 when they visit Geneva College in Beaver Falls, Pa., for a 7:00 p.m. start.
