#6 Tartans Run Win Streak to Three with Road Win at NYU

The #6 Carnegie Mellon University men's soccer team defeated New York University 4-1 on Friday afternoon in Riverdale, N.Y. to stay atop the University Athletic Association (UAA) standings with a 3-1-1 UAA mark. Two late first half goals proved to be the difference as the Tartans improve to 11-2-1 overall and leave the Violets at 10-5-1 and 2-2-1 in the UAA.

Junior goalkeeper Christopher Madden (Reisterstown, Md./Calvert Hall) made his only save of the game in the 23rd minute and went on to earn his 10th victory of the season.

Freshman Connor Webb (Dallas, Texas/J.J. Pearce) opened the scoring with his first career goal in the 34th minute after making a move around a defender and putting the shot low past Violet keeper Jonas Poster. Webb received a pass upfield from junior Max Tassano (Bala Cynwyd, Pa./Lower Merion).

Three minutes later junior Cole Christensen (Castle Rock, Colo./Rock Canyon) headed home a corner kick by senior Ben Bryant (Toledo, Ohio/Ottawa Hills) for his second goal of the season and the Tartans 2-0 lead.

Fourteen minutes into the second period Tassano added to his goal total for the year, scoring his 10th off an assist by sophomore defender Jakob Rohwer (Southborough, Mass./Phillips Academy Andover). Rohwer played a throw-in to the box that bounced through the defense and was flicked to the right post by Tassano.

With the Tartans ahead 3-0, New York got on the board when Niki Chow scored on a penalty kick in the 64th minute.

Sophomore Daniel Kursman-Neri (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Harriton) put the Tartans back up by three four minutes later with his third goal of the season. Bryant played a ball to the left corner where Christensen one-timed a cross into the box which Kursman-Neri finished on the spot.

The Tartans will next face Brandeis University on Sunday, October 28 in a key league match-up at Brandeis at 1:30 p.m.
