Wysocki's Header in Final Minute Lifts Tartans Over Geneva 1-0

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - Senior Chris Wysocki's (Newtown, Pa./Germantown Academy) header in the final minute of the game lifted the Carnegie Mellon University men's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over visiting Geneva College on Wednesday, September 11. With the win, the Tartans improve to 4-1 as the Golden Tornadoes drop to 2-2-1.

A corner kick by freshman Tristan Lockwood (Victor, N.Y./Victor) set the table for Wysocki's goal even though it was cleared out of the 18-yard box by the Geneva defense. Junior Mark Nicholas (Metuchen, N.J./Hun School of Princeton) collected the free ball and sent it wide where Lockwood returned to play outside the 18-yard box on the right side of the field. Lockwood immediately sent a cross through the box where Wysocki ran to the near post and flicked it with his head to the far post net.

The Tartans had a few other opportunities in the second half but all were wide or high of the goal.

Geneva's best opportunity came eight minutes into the second half when Jeremy Troutman blasted a shot that senior keeper Christopher Madden (Reisterstown, Md./Calvert Hall) had to push out as that's all the time he had to react to the shot.

The Tartans owned the majority of the opportunities in the first period with four shots on goal and six going just wide of the net.

Madden finished the game with six saves, making three in each period.

Carnegie Mellon will return to the pitch on Saturday, September 14 at Allegheny College for a 1:00 p.m. start.
