(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's soccer team hosted New York University in University Athletic Association (UAA) action on Saturday, October 10, with the Tartans using a first-half goal to defeat the Violets, 1-0. The Tartans are now 8-2-1 on the year and 1-1-0 in UAA play, while the Violets fall to 4-7-0 and 0-2-0.
New York goalkeeper Lucas Doucette kept the Tartans off the score board until the last two minutes of the first period when sophomore Matt De Jesus (Cincinnati, Ohio/Summit Country Day) slotted a right-footed shot to the opposite post for his first career marker. De Jesus received a pass to the right side of the field from freshman Sean MacPherson (Palo Alto, Calif./Gunn) after senior Stefan Dasbach (Philadelphia, Pa./Wissahickon) chested down a throw by Doucette. Dasbach then found MacPherson who touched it off to De Jesus who put the shot low and around a charging Doucette.
Prior to the goal, the Tartans pressured Doucette into three saves on two shots by freshman Anthony Guilli (Warrenville, Ill./St. Joseph) and one by senior Jordan Friedlander (Rockville, Md./The Bullis School).
The goal stood for the Tartans as four of New York's five second half shots were off the mark while senior keeper Eric Bykowsky (Columbia, S.C./Irmo) made a save on the other.
The Tartans will return to action on Friday, October 16 when they host the University of Rochester at 7:30 p.m.
