Two Tartans Named to CoSIDA Academic All-District Men’s Soccer Team

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – Two Carnegie Mellon University men's soccer players have been named to the Academic All-District men's soccer team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Juniors Andreas Fatschel (Seven Fields, Pa./Seneca Valley) and Tristan Lockwood (Fairport, N.Y./Victor) are both being honored for the first time.

Carnegie Mellon is part of District 4 which is comprised of all Division III schools in the state of Pennsylvania. Both Fatschel and Lockwood now move on to the national ballot for Academic All-America recognition.

Fatschel is a two-year starter at defensive back for the Tartans and is a captain for this year's team that is 9-2-3 with six shutouts. Last season he was honored on the All-University Athletic Association (UAA) team as honorable mention. Fatshcel is a mechanical and biomedical engineering major with a 3.95 GPA. He has been a research assistant at the University of Pittsburgh, Johns Hopkins University and Carnegie Mellon. He also serves as an academic counselor and participated in the emerging leaders program. A member of the mechanical engineering honor society, Fatshcel volunteers with Team IMPACT and his church by collecting clothing for the needy.

Lockwood is a three-year starter at midfield for the Tartans and is also a captain for this year's team. He has scored five goals this season including the game-winner against La Roche and has eight career goals. A decision science major with a minor in Hispanic studies, Lockwood carries a 3.92 GPA. He is a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) and participated in the UAA SAAC meetings this past summer. Lockwood has also been working as a research assistant for a PhD student since May 2015 and volunteers for the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy, Tree Pittsburgh and participates in team community service projects by teaching soccer to underprivileged youth.

The Tartans have three games remaining on their regular season schedule and return to action on Friday, October 30 when they face No. 11 Washington University on the road at 7:30 p.m. CT.
