Britton Wins Second UAA Title, Tartans Place Fourth at UAA Championships

(CHICAGO, Ill.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's swimming and diving team finished fourth at the 2019 University Athletic Association (UAA) Swimming and Diving Championships hosted by the University of Chicago.

Sophomore Justin Britton (Falls Church, Va. / George Mason) won his second UAA title of the weekend when he swam to the final wall in 1:47.71 in the 200-yard backstroke.

Freshman Richard Dauksher (Fort Collins, Colo. / Fossil Ridge) earned All-UAA status with a third-place finish in the 1,650-yard freestyle when he touched in 15:44.27. Fellow freshman Doug Johnson (Brea, Calif. / Brea Olinda) was just after Dauksher in fourth place in a career-best time of  15:47.69 which was better than last year's NCAA accepted time. Freshman Baris Denizli (East Brunswick, N.J. / East Brunswick) was the third Tartan to finish in the top eight of the event when he touched in 15:52.09 to record a provisional qualifying mark.

Junior Rip Lyster (Naples, Fla. / Gulf Coast) earned a seventh-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly after completing the event in 1:53.85.

Junior Sam Hawke (Malvern, Pa. / Episcopal Academy) was the top Tartan in the 100-yard freestyle, finishing 13th in 46.63, while senior Winston Chu (Warren, N.J. / Saint Peter's Prep) was 15th in the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:07.83.

The 400-yard freestyle relay of Britton, sophomore Max Gonzalez (Allison Park, Pa. / North Allegheny), freshman Daniel Ng (Buffalo Grove, Ill. / Adlai E. Stevenson), and Hawke closed the meet with a fourth-place showing in a school record time of 3:01.77.

Diving coach Alicia Gorman was named the Men's Diving Coach of the Year after three divers finished in the top five of the 3-meter with two finishing in the top seven, including the champion, of the 1-meter. The award is the fourth for Gorman as the leader of the men's diving program.
