Tartans Place Second at Kenyon Total Performance Invitational

(GAMBIER, Ohio) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's swimming team placed second at the Kenyon College Total Performance Invitational which concluded on Saturday, November 20. The Tartans set many personal best times, met eight NCAA B Cut times and set one school record.

Senior Doug Johnson (Brea, Calif. / Brea Olinda) led the Tartans in the 1,650-yard freestyle with a finishing time of 16:23.66 to place ninth to open the meet.

Senior Richard Dauksher (Fort Collins, Colo. / Fossil Ridge) placed fourth in the 200-yard backstroke with a season-best time and NCAA B Cut of 1:49.48.

Senior Justin Britton (Falls Church, Va. / George Mason) set a school record in the 100-yard freestyle, topping his own record, with a time of 44.88 in the prelims. His time of 44.94 in the finals placed him tied for third in the event and meets the NCAA B Cut time. Junior Erik Feldmann (Yakima, Wash. / West Valley) placed eighth in the A-Final of the 100-yard freestyle with a career-best time of 45.52.

The top event for the team today was the 200-yard breaststroke as five Tartans competed in the A-Final of the event. Freshman Elmer Wang () led the group with a third-place finish in 2:04.27. Freshman Sammy Telanoff () was fourth in 2:04.58, senior Colin Daniel (Westfield, N.J. / Westfield) was sixth in 2:05.49, sophomore Adi Kambhampaty (Arlington, Va. / Washington-Liberty) was seventh in 2:06.29 and freshman Chirstian Lanuza (Greenwich, Conn. / Greenwich) was 10th in 2:07.93. Lanuza's prelims time of 2:03.76 was the fastest for the Tartans on the day and he and three others met the NCAA qualifying mark.

Senior Sean Ream (Canton, Ohio / Jackson) picked up a third-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly to lead three Tartans in the top heat. His time of 1:50.41 followed his time of 1:50.29 in the prelims and hits the NCAA qualifying time. Sophomore Leo Badaker (South Amboy, N.J. / Copenhagen International School) was eighth in 1:53.30 and freshman Adel Heddadji (San Ramon, Calif. / Dougherty Valley) was ninth in 1:53.63.

Two Tartan relays finished in the top three of the 400-yard freestyle relay in times of 3:01.27 and 3:02.85. Both times better the NCAA qualifying mark with the goup of junior Aleksander Tarczynski (Springfield, Va. / West Springfield), junior Yousef Hassen (Redlands, Calif. / Redlands), Feldmann and Britton a second off the school record.

The Tartans will break for the holiday season and resume competition on Saturday, January 15 at Denison University.
