Kyle has Top Finish to Open UAA Championships for Tartans
(ATLANTA, Ga.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's swimming and diving team began competition at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships on Wednesday, February 8 with two events and continued action on Thursday, February 9 with five events. The Tartans are in third place with 478 points with two days left to compete.
Top Performances
- Graduate student Jud Kyle placed second on the 1-meter board on Wednesday with 491.40 points.
- Four men's divers placed in the top eight with graduate student James Kyle placing fourth, senior Matthew Wagner placing seventh, and sophomore Jonathan Lindstrom placing eighth.
- The 200-yard freestyle relay of freshman Arnav Deshpande, senior Erik Feldmann, freshman DJ Lloyd, and senior Matthew Nagler earned an All-UAA third-place finish in 1:21.80.
- Junior Santiago Gomez was the top finisher for the Tartans in the 500-yard freestyle with an 11th-place showing in 4:31.71.
- Senior Aleksander Tarczynski was a top-eight finisher in the 200-yard IM touching sixth in 1:50.08.
- Deshpande made the podium in the 50-yard freestyle after placing eighth in 20.73.
- The 400-yard medley relay finished Thursday's events with a fifth-place award in 3:17.81.
- On Wednesday, the 800-yard freestyle relay placed fourth in 6:41.56

- Kyle earned his fourth All-UAA honor in three years competing at the UAA Championships and second second-place finish on the 1-meter board.
