Tartans Sweep Seven Events in Victory Against Gettysburg
(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's swimming and diving team won 13 events against Gettysburg College on Saturday, November 4 in the third dual meet of the season, scoring 208 points to Gettysburg's 54.
Top Performances
- Sophomore Arnav Deshpande, junior Christian Lanuza, senior Aleksander Tarczynski, and sophomore DJ Lloyd won the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:30.81.
- Tarczynski, Lloyd, Deshpande and freshman Brayden Morford won the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:23.04.
- Freshman Miles Haraldsson won the 1,000-yard freestyle in 9:59.00, followed by freshman Akira van de Groenendaal who finished in 9:59.80.
- The Tartans swept the 200-yard freestyle with senior Santiago Gomez finishing first in 1:43.70, followed by graduate student Willem Goedecke in 1:43.81 and freshman Richard Chung in 1:44.53.
- The Tartans swept the 100-yard backstroke with Morford finishing first in 50.09, followed by Deshpande in 50.97 and freshman Ljubomir Popovic in 52.94.
- The Tartans swept the 100-yard breaststroke with Lanuza in first in 55.90, followed by freshman Aaron Lee in 57.35 and freshman Andy Lu in 58.04.
- Freshman Henry Rosenhagen won the 200-yard butterfly in 1:56.71, followed by sophomore David Zoota in 1:59.26.
- The Tartans swept the 50-yard freestyle with Lloyd finishing first in 20.28, followed by Tarczynski in 20.88 and freshman Paul Deynega in 22.05.
- The Tartans swept the 100-yard freestyle with Lanuza finishing first in 46.53, followed by Morford in 46.95 and freshman Cole Venters in 48.59.
- The Tartans swept the 500-yard freestyle with Gomez finishing first in 4:46.63, followed by Goedecke in 4:49.09 and junior Andrew Klepchick in 4:53.19.
- The Tartans swept the 100-yard butterfly with Tarczynski finishing first in 50.28, followed by Deshpande in 51.26 and Deynega in 51.74.
- Lu won the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:05.90.
- Lanuza won the 200-yard IM in 1:55.13 followed by Lu in 1:56.33.
- Senior Tyler Hoyt hit his first of two qualifying marks on the 1-meter diving board with a six-dive score of 276.30.
Notes
- Lloyd's 50-yard freestyle time in top in the nation and set a new school record.
- Lanuza won three events for the first time this season after winning twice in the opening dual meet at Washington and Lee University.
- Gomez won two events for the first time this year.
