Ten Tartan Men Invited to NCAA Swimming Championships

(INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.) – Ten Carnegie Mellon University men's swimmers have earned the right to compete at the 2024 NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships. The championships will be hosted at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, North Carolina, on March 20-23.

Graduate student Aleksander Tarczynski and sophomores Arnav Deshpande and DJ Lloyd will return to the championships meet after earning All-America honors last year.

Tarczynski was invited this year in the 200-yard butterfly where he is seeded 11th. He will also swim the 100-yard butterfly (seeded 20th) and the 50-yard freestyle (seeded 35th).

Deshpande was invited in the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke where he is seeded ninth and 10th, respectively. He'll also swim the 100-yard freestyle and is seeded 30th.

Lloyd was invited in the 50-yard freestyle and is seeded 16th and will also swim the 100-yard freestyle (seeded 42nd).

Freshman Brayden Morford was invited in three events and will swim the 100-yard backstroke (seeded first), the 200-yard backstroke (seeded fifth), and the 200-yard IM (seeded ninth).

Freshman Miles Harldsson was invited to the meet with the 15th-best time in the 1,650-yard freestyle and will also swim the 400-yard IM (seeded 23rd) and the 500-yard freestyle (seeded 30th).

Graduate student Willem Goedecke, junior Christian Lanuza, and freshman Aaron Lee all made B cuts throughout the year and will swim individual races after being invited as part of a relay.

Goedecke will swim the 200-yard freestyle (seeded 29th), Lanuza the 100-yard breaststroke (seed 20th) and the 200-yard breaststroke (seeded 27th), and Lee the 100-yard breaststroke (seeded 30th).

The Tartans have two relays seeded fifth in the 200-yard medley relay and 200-yard freestyle relay with the 400-yard medley relay seeded sixth. The 400-yard freestyle relay is seeded eighth and the 800-yard freestyle relay is seeded 13th. Joining the individual swimmers at the meet with be senior Santiago Gomez and freshman Richard Chung who will compete on the 800-yard freestyle relay team.

Preliminary finishes that score in the top 16 earn the chance to score points for the team in the finals with the chance to earn the distinguished honors of All-America or All-America Second Team.
