Tartans Continue to Break Records on Third Day of NCAAs

(GREENSBORO, N.C.) — The Carnegie Mellon University men's swimming and diving team competed on the third day of the 2024 NCAA Division III Championships with four appearances in the finals. The Tartans broke a school record for the third day in a row. The Tartans are currently in seventh place with 131 points. 

Top Performances

  • Grad student Aleksander Tarczynski started the evening by placing 12th in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:47.94.
  • Freshman Brayden Morford followed with a second-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke with a career-best time of 47.04, topping his school record of 47.06 set at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships.
  • Sophomore Arnav Deshpande competed in the consolation finals of the 100-yard backstroke and placed 12th overall in 48.40 seconds.
  • Junior Christian Lanuza finished 16th in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 54.96. His time of 54.55 in the prelims broke his school record set in the fall.
  • The Tartans placed 10th in the 800-yard freestyle relay. Senior Santiago Gomez, grad student Willem Goedecke, freshman Richard Chung, and Morford broke a school record, finishing in a time of 6:36.17.

The Tartans will compete in the fourth and final day of the NCAA Championships on Saturday, March 23 beginning at 10 a.m. with prelims and closing at 6 p.m. with the finals heats.
