Tartans Earn More Awards, Place Eighth at NCAA Championships
(GREENSBORO, N.C.) — The Carnegie Mellon University men's swimming and diving team finished competition at the 2024 NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships on Saturday, March 23 with another All-American performance by freshman Brayden Morford and placed eighth with 161 team points. The eighth-place finish marks the best finish for the program since 2005 when the team was sixth.
Top Performances
- Freshman Brayden Morford continued his first national meet with a third All-America performance, placing seventh in the 200-yard backstroke in a time of 1:48.05.
- The 400-yard freestyle relay of Morford, grad student Aleksander Tarczynski, sophomore DJ Lloyd, and sophomore Arnav Deshpande closed the meet with a ninth-place performance in a time of 2:58.82 to earn 18 points for the team standings.
- Freshman Miles Haraldsson just missed an All-America Second Team honor when he placed 17th in the 1,650-yard freestyle in a time of 15:59.53.
- Lloyd and Deshpande both swam in the 100-yard freestyle finishing 33rd and 35th in times of 45.59 and 45.66, respectively.
- Junior Christian Lanuza put together a school-record performance in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:00.71 that placed him 20th in his last swim of the meet.

- DJ Lloyd – 50-yard freestyle 16th place, 400-yard freestyle 9th place
- Brayden Morford – 400-yard medley relay 9th place, 400-yard freestyle relay 9th place, 800-yard freestyle relay 10th place
- Arnav Deshpande – 100-yard backstroke 12th place, 400-yard medley relay 9th place, 400-yard freestyle relay 9th place
- Christian Lanuza – 100-yard breaststroke 16th place, 400-yard medley relay 9th place
- Aleksander Tarczynski – 200-yard butterfly 12th place, 400-yard medley relay 9th place, 400-yard freestyle relay 9th place
- Santiago Gomez – 800-yard freestyle relay 10th place
