Tartans Fall in Close Contest to Division II West Virginia Wesleyan

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The 22nd-ranked Carnegie Mellon University men's tennis team hosted Division II West Virginia Wesleyan College on Saturday, February 17 at Greensburg Racquet Club. The Bobcats led by one after doubles and topped the Tartans, 6-3. Carnegie Mellon is now 1-3 in the dual season.

How it Happened

  • The Tartans picked up a doubles victory in the second position when sophomore Akshay Joshi and senior Derek Wong won, 8-4.
  • In singles play, senior Nadim Motaghedi won, 6-0, 6-3, at second singles to even the team scoring at 2-2.
  • Wesleyan won at third singles before freshman Raghav Jangbahadur won by a 6-2, 6-3 score at first singles to once again even the match.
  • Wesleyan would go on to win at four, five, and six singles with fifth and sixth singles playing three sets before a victor was crowned.

Notes

  • This was the third straight match for the Tartans against a non-Division III opponent.

Up Next

The Tartans will next have an exhibition contest against Division I Duquesne University on Saturday, February 24 before traveling to Swarthmore College for two matches the first weekend of March.
