Smith Garners UAA Weekly Recognition

(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – Junior Amanda Smith was named the University Athletic Association (UAA) Softball Pitcher of the Week after three outings this week for the Carnegie Mellon University softball team. The honor is the first of the season for Smith.

Smith recorded a 0.72 ERA for the week with a 0.50 ERA in two UAA complete-game wins while also pitching 5.1 innings of relief work in non-conference action. Smith struck out 17 batters, 13 against New York University, and scattered 11 hits in the three outings. Smith's 7-0 win on Sunday against NYU was the first shutout for the Tartans in UAA play in two-and-a-half seasons of action for the program.

The Tartans are set to host the College of Wooster on Tuesday, April 4 with the doubleheader starting at 3:30 p.m. before resuming UAA play with a four-game series at Washington University in St. Louis from Friday, April 7 through Sunday, April 9.
