(ATLANTA, Ga.) – The Carnegie Mellon University softball team continued its first University Athletic Association (UAA) series of the year at Emory University on Saturday, March 30 with a doubleheader. The Eagles rallied in game one for a 9-8 win and did the same in game two with an 18-10 six-inning win. The Tartans are now 7-8 overall while the Eagles hold a 16-7 record.
Game 1
- The Tartans led 7-3 after five innings and took an 8-3 lead in the top of the sixth inning when freshman Alison Li singled in sophomore Maya Goodwin who led off the inning with a double.
- Emory was able to string together five hits with two Tartan errors to score five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to tie the score at 8-all.
- The Eagles used a sacrifice bunt with runners on first and second to advance the runners before Ella Hoyle came up with the game-winning single to right field to score Page Nellis reached on a hit by pitch.
- Goodwin had three hits and two RBIs for the Tartans while Li had two hits and four RBIs.
- Sophomore Koko Sagae also had two hits and knocked in a run.
Game 2
- The Tartans put seven runs on the board in the top of the second inning to take a 7-2 lead before the Eagles added four runs in the bottom half of the inning.
- With the score tied at 8-8, sophomore Kira Monji drove in two runs with two outs to give the Tartans a 10-8 lead in the fifth inning.
- The Eagles put the ball in play in the bottom of the sixth inning and scored 10 runs off eight hits and three Tartan errors to end the game.
- Everyone in the lineup recorded at least one hit for the Tartans with junior Allie Rome collecting two hits.
- Monji, senior Kiera Boucher, Sagae, and junior Abbey Reese each had two RBIs.
