Tartans Split Series with Emory After 4-2 Game 4 Win

(ATLANTA, Ga.) – The Carnegie Mellon University softball team closed a four-game series at Emory University with a 4-2 win on Sunday, March 31 to earn a 2-2 split in the opening of University Athletic Association (UAA) play for both teams. The Tartans are now 8-8 overall while the Eagles hold a 16-8 record.

  • Sophomore Koko Sagae led the Tartans with three hits in four at bats while knocking in two runs.
  • Sophomore Kira Monji collected two hits in three at bats and scored a run.
  • Sophomore Grace Fujino earned her first victory of the season going 5.0 innings. She allowed two hits and one run.
  • Senior Amanda Smith finished the game by scattering four hits and picking up a strikeout to end the game with the bases loaded.
  • Emory to the lead in the bottom of the second inning.
  • The Tartans put three runs on the board in the top of the fifth inning when Sagae singled in two runs and junior Allie Rome singled in another.
  • It became a 4-1 lead in the top of the sixth inning when freshman Jasmine Chao singled up the middle to score junior Abbey Reese who reached on a walk with one out.
  • Emory added a run in the bottom of the sixth inning with a sacrifice fly.
  • Emory loaded the bases in the seventh inning looking to rally for the third time in the series but Smith was able to escape the jam after a runners interference call kept the runners from advancing on a single to make two outs ahead of the strikeout to end the game.

The Tartans are scheduled to travel to Geneva College for a doubleheader on Wednesday, April 3 but rain in the forecast will likely postpone the event until Wednesday, April 24.
