Four Tartans Honored on All-UAA Team

(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – Four Carnegie Mellon University softball players have been honored by the University Athletic Association (UAA) coaches with selection to the Softball All-Association team for 2024. Seniors Kiera Boucher and Amanda Smith, along with sophomore Maya Goodwin were selected to the first team with sophomore Koko Sagae selected to the second team. All four earned their first career awards.

Boucher led the team in hits with 41, including 26 during UAA play. She hit .394 against UAA opponents with four home runs and seven RBIs. Boucher scored 17 runs and stole 11 bases in league play, while she scored 26 runs and stole 20 bases for the season. The senior also set school records for career hits with 123, runs scored with 91, and stolen bases with 55, while setting season records for home runs with six.

Smith recorded 11 wins this season and struck out 103 batters to lead the pitching staff. Against UAA teams, Smith recorded five wins and a save while pitching 66.0 innings and striking out 41 batters. She recorded her first career no-hitter against New York University in a 3-0 victory.

Goodwin was second on the team in hits with 31 for the season. She had five home runs, six doubles, and four triples and knocked in a team-leading 23 runs while scoring 33 for the team. In UAA play, Goodwin collected 16 hits, four of which were home runs, scored 20 runs, and recorded 15 RBIs Goodwin's 33 runs scored set a new single-season record.

Sagae was second on the team in hits during UAA play with 17. She had three doubles and two triples, recorded 13 RBIs, and scored eight runs. For the year, Sagae was third on the team in hits with 25, second in RBIs with 17, and fourth in runs scored with 17. In the field, Sagae split time at shortstop and third base and recorded a fielding percentage of .898.

The Tartans finished the year with a 16-18 overall mark and 9-11 showing in the UAA in their sixth season. The nine UAA wins is the most in school history and helped the team finish fourth.
