(PITTSBURGH Pa.) – The 24th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University women's basketball team opened its University Athletic Association (UAA) home schedule with a game against top-ranked New York University. The Violets led from start to finish to move to 15-0 and 4-0 after the 91-62 win that puts the Tartans at 12-3 and 2-2.
Inside the Box Score
- The Violets took an early lead, scoring the first 11 points of the game.
- Senior Anisha Chintala ended the Violets' streak and started off the scoring for the Tartans with two layups.
- After reentering the game halfway through the first quarter following two early fouls, senior Catherine Or scored two layups in the remaining five minutes and the Tartans trailed 29-13 at the end of the frame.
- Junior Ava Arias scored the first seven points of the second quarter for the Tartans but the home squad still trailed by 16 points less than three minutes into quarter.
- With four three-pointers in the second quarter, the Violets upped their lead to 54-27.
- Sophomore Kayla Delmore scored a three-pointer with 5:46 remaining in the third quarter. This was followed by a nearly three-minute scoring drought by both teams.
- Chintala scored three layups in the remaining time, racking up six of the Tartans' total 11 points for the quarter.
- The Tartans started off the fourth quarter strong making four of their first five shots including three-pointers by freshman Anya Peper and Or.
- With two more connections from behind the arc by junior Piper Ligotti and Delmore, the Tartans were 4-of-4 for the quarter.
- The Tartans won the fourth quarter 24-19, but it wasn't enough as the Violets led by more than 20 points for the full quarter.
