Tartans Win 10th Game of Year, Celebrate Graduating Class

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The ninth-ranked Carnegie Mellon University women's soccer team celebrated its graduating class with a 5-3 home victory against Salisbury University on Saturday, October 22. The Tartans are now 10-1-2 for the year while the Seagulls fall to 7-8-1.

Inside The Box Score

  • The Tartans scored in the first minute of the game after senior Helena Spencer was fouled in the box. Spencer then converted the penalty kick for her second goal of the season and 10th of her career.
  • Midway through the half, the Seagulls equalized on a shot by Autumn Dougherty.
  • Dougherty then gave the Seagulls a 2-1 lead in the 31st minute.
  • The Tartans didn't trail long as sophomore Maria Askounis tied the game in the 35th minute and then gave the home squad the lead in the 40th minute. Both goals were assisted by junior Breanna Valentovish.
  • Sophomore Sophia Bastek added to the Tartans' lead in the 42nd minute with her goal coming off an assist by sophomore Emma Shirzad.
  • Senior Alex Adams, who is now one goal away from tying the all-time career goals mark, scored in the 60th minute to give the Tartans a 5-2 lead.
  • Salisbury converted a penalty kick in the 69th minute for the last goal of the game.
