#6 Tartans Top Grove City, 4-1

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The sixth-ranked Carnegie Mellon University women's soccer team defeated the visiting Grove City College Wolverines on Wednesday, September 18 behind a pair of goals by sophomore Saveria Ulizzi. The Tartans are now 3-0-3 for the season while Grove City is 3-2-1.

Inside the Box Score

  • The Tartans held a 1-0 lead at halftime after a 41st-minute goal by freshman Nicole Lazarakis off an assist from junior Sophia Bastek and sophomore Natalie Rayce. It was her first career score.
  • Graduate student Cecelia Dieterich put the Tartans up 2-0 with a goal in the 52nd minute when she finished a pass by junior Vivian Wang.
  • Grove City's Emma Herrmann put in a goal in the 64th minute with a header off a corner kick by Lexi Zook.
  • Ulizzi scored her first goal of the game in the 83rd minute and followed with her second left-footed goal in the 86th minute.
  • Lazarakis earned an assist on Ulizzi's first goal with a shot that was stopped by the keeper with senior Ayana Curto and Dieterich earning assists on the second goal.
  • Junior Abby O'Connor earned the win for the Tartans after making three saves.
