#4 Tartans Breakthrough for Goal and 1-0 Win Against #21 Brandeis

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The fourth-ranked Carnegie Mellon University women's soccer team faced off against the 21st-ranked Brandeis University Judges on Saturday, October 5 to start University Athletic Association (UAA) play. The Tartans won with a goal in the late minutes of the game, making them 8-0-3 for the season with a 1-0 mark in the UAA while the Judges are 9-2 overall and 0-1 in the UAA.

  • Graduate student Cecelia Dieterich scored the winning goal in the 87th minute of the game off a pass by sophomore Audrey Bianco.
  • The Tartans led offensively, taking 12 shots, with six on frame compared to four shots by the Judges with only one on goal.
  • Bianco took three shots with two shots on goal in the first fifteen minutes of the game. The first going over the goal and the second going along the bottom center and saved by the Judges' Rachel Ross.
  • Dieterich also had three shots in the game, followed by sophomore Saveria Ulizzi with two shots.
  • Junior Abby O'Connor recorded her second shutout of the season with her one save in this game.
