#7 Tartans Shutout Mount St. Joseph in First Round of NCAA Tournament

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The seventh-ranked Carnegie Mellon University women's soccer team hosted a first round game of the Division III NCAA Women's Soccer Championship on Saturday, November 16, topping Mount St. Joseph University by a 4-0 score. The win puts the team's record at 12-2-4 for the season and marks the 18th NCAA victory for the program.

Inside the Box Score

  • Sophomore Audrey Bianco got the scoring started early with an unassisted goal in the third minute. She received a pass down the sideline and drove into the box and fired a shot to the near post past the diving keeper for the initial score.
  • Freshman Emma Kim added to the scoreline just minutes before the first half ended when she knocked in a shot at the left post. Senior Alana Frederick served a corner kick from the left to the far post where senior Ella Onal headed back in the direction it came where Kim finished the play for the two-goal lead.
  • Bianco struck again in the 60th minute as she juggled a ball served into the box and over the defense by junior Grace Starr. On Bianco's second touch, she poked it over the keeper for her second tally of the game.
  • Sophomore Saveria Ulizzi added the fourth goal in the 73rd minute when she drove through the defense and fired off a shot from the corner of the 18-yard box to the far side netting for her first goal nine games.
  • Junior Abby O'Connor earned the win in goal for the team, making one save in the first 45 minutes of the game.
  • Sophomore Maddie Kellogg made one save in the second half and came off her line a few times to snag ball and stop opportunities for the Lions, helping to keep the shutout.
