Tartans Compete with Denison in Last Home Meet

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's swimming and diving team hosted Denison University in its last home meet of the year on Saturday, January 28. The Tartans fell by an overall score of 164-120.

Sophomore Soleil Phan (Irvine, Calif./Beckman) won the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 54.19 and finished second in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:55.44. Junior Breanna Stillo (West Caldwell, N.J./James Caldwell) won the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:07.25 as sophomore Tatiana Duchak (Centreville, Va./Mercersburg Academy) was fourth in 1:07.87.

Sophomore Megan Garvey (West Chester, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) picked up a second-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly in 2:09.46 while Stillo finished second in the 50-yard freestyle in a career best 24.45.

Also picking up a second-place finish was sophomore Vivian Wong (Saratoga, Calif./The Harker School) in the 200-yard breaststroke. Her time of 2:27.29 was a career best.

Freshman Kaeli Halbersleben (Maineville, Ohio/Kings) finished third in the 1,000-yard freestyle in a season-best time of 10:49.21 while senior Victoria Adams (Rutherford, N.J./Rutherford) was fourth in 10:53.03.

Freshman Debbie Lin (Saratoga, Calif./Saratoga) placed fourth for the Tartans in the 200-yard backstroke in 2:12.12 as freshman Kelley Sheehan (Poway, Calif./Poway) placed fourth in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:01.55 and in the 500-yard freestyle in a season-best time of 5:16.25.

In her final home meet, senior Olivia DeFazio (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) placed second on the 1-meter diving board with a season-best 228.75 points and second on the 3-meter board with 230.92 points.

In the 100-yard butterfly, Phan and Garvey finished two-three with times of 58.57 and 59.52. Freshman Wendy Liu (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) then closed the meet with a second-place finish in the 400-yard IM in 4:39.87.

The Tartans will compete next weekend on Saturday, February 4 at the University of Pittsburgh. The meet is scheduled to start at 11:30 a.m.
