Tartans Open Season Against UAA Teams

(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) - Through six events at the University Athletic Association Invitational hosted by the University of Rochester, the Carnegie Mellon University women's swimming and diving team held the lead against all four opponents. Other teams in attendance were Brandeis University, Case Western Reserve University and New York University.

The Tartans took first place in the 400-yard medley relay and third in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The 400-yard medley relay team of freshmen Kira Singhaus (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill West), Felicia Wang (Mission Viejo, Calif./Capistrano Valley), Shieri Suzuka (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Yorktown) and junior Soleil Phan (Irvine, Calif./Beckman) finished in a time of 4:02.09 while senior Breanna Stillo (West Caldwell, N.J./James Caldwell), Wang, freshman Hannah Hoffert (Midlothian, Va./James River) and sophomore Kelley Sheehan (Poway, Calif./Poway) finished the 200-yard freestyle in 1:43.54.

In the two individual events for the evening, sophomore Kaeli Halbersleben (Maineville, Ohio/Kings) finished first in the 1,650-yard freestyle in a time of 18:16.56 while freshman Elizabeth Chang (Great Neck, N.Y./Great Neck South) was third in 18:43.03. Phan picked up a second-place finish in the 200-yard IM in 2:11.82 while Suzuka was right behind her in third place in 2:12.39.

In diving, freshman Alicia Iott (Roanoke, Va./Roanoke Catholic) placed ninth on the 3-meter diving board with 111.75 points.

Competition continues on Saturday morning at the University of Rochester.
