Phan Wins Three in Tartans Daul Victory Over Grove City
(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - Junior Soleil Phan (Irvine, Calif./Beckman) won three events as the Carnegie Mellon University swimming and diving team defeated Grove City College 178-119. Besides Phan's three victories, the Tartans turned in six others.
Phan's first win came in the 200-yard freestyle as she topped her season-best time from a week ago touching in 1:55.59. The junior then touched first in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 54.05 before turning in another season-best time of 2:12.40 in the 200-yard IM.
Freshman Kira Singhaus (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill West) recorded two top finishes, winning the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:00.63 before winning the 200-yard backstroke in 2:14.09.
Also turning in two first-place finishes was freshman Felicia Wang (Mission Viejo, Calif./Capistrano Valley). Wang touched the wall in 1:08.45 in the 100-yard breaststroke and 2:31.55 in the 200-yard breaststroke. She bettered her time in both events from a week ago.
Carnegie Mellon's two other top swimmers were junior Megan Garvey (West Chester, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) winning the 200-yard butterfly in 2:12.74 and freshman Shieri Suzuka (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Yorktown) touching the wall in 58.76 in the 100-yard butterfly.
The Tartans will be in action again on Saturday, November 17 at 11:30 a.m. when they host their Quad Meet with Washington & Lee, Allegheny & Rochester. Diving will take place on Friday, November 16 at 6:00 p.m.
