Tartans Swim at Pitt to Prepare for UAA Championships

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - In a tune-up for the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships starting on February 13, the Carnegie Mellon University women's swimming and diving team went to the University of Pittsburgh to face the Panthers along with Clarion University, California University of Pa. and Grove City College. The Tartans defeated Clarion 152-143, Cal 235-48 and Grove City 194-93.

Junior Megan Garvey (West Chester, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) finished second in the 200-yard butterfly in 2:12.35 as junior Vivian Wong (Saratoga, Calif./The Harker School) recorded a season-best time of 2:29.01 in the 200-yard breaststroke.

Freshman Kira Singhaus (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill West) placed third in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:00.95 while sophomore Kristin Dlesk (Chapel Hill, N.C./East Chapel Hill) was behind her in fourth in a season-best time of 1:01.63. Singhaus later finished fourth in the 200-yard backstroke in 2:13.59.

Sophomore Kaeli Halbersleben (Maineville, Ohio/Kings) finished the 1,000-yard freestyle in fifth place in 11:10.23 as sophomore Kelley Sheehan (Poway, Calif./Poway) was fourth in the 500-yard freestyle in 5:18.58 and fifth in the 200-yard IM in 2:15.84.

Senior Breanna Stillo (West Caldwell, N.J./James Caldwell) tallied a fourth-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:07.81 and a sixth-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle in 24.89.

Junior Soleil Phan (Irvine, Calif./Beckman) was third in the 100-yard butterfly in 59.84 and fifth in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:57.23.

In diving, freshman Winona Li (Allison Park, Pa./Hampton) recorded 175.95 points on the 1-meter board and 172.30 points on the 1-meter board to lead the Tartans.

The UAA Championships will begin on Wednesday, February 13 in Chicago, Ill., and conclude on Saturday, February 16.
