Women’s Swimming Honored for Academics by CSCAA

(NORFOLK, Va.) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's swimming and diving team was honored by the College Swim Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) with a Team Scholar All-America award as 13 individuals were also named CSCAA Scholar All-Americans.

The Team Scholar All-America award is presented to college and university swimming and diving teams who have achieved a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher. The women's team earned a 3.81 GPA for the spring semester and also earned the award following the fall semester in which they recorded a 3.44 team GPA.

Individuals who achieved a 3.50 GPA or better for the year and either met a provisional time standard or competed at the NCAA Championships were honored.

The women's team had 11 members invited to compete at the 2020 NCAA Championships with 10 meeting the academic standard for Scholar All-America recognition.

Senior Emma Nicklas-Morris (Winston-Salem, N.C./RJ Reynolds) earned her fourth CSCAA Scholar All-America honor. Fellow senior Taylor Brown (San Antonio, Texas/Johnson) was invited to the championship meet for the first time to earn the Scholar All-America award after earning Honorable Mention status the past two seasons for surpassing a provisional qualifying mark.

Joining Nicklas-Morris and Brown with the top award is senior Mary Day (Warren, N.J./Mount Saint Mary Academy), juniors Jessica Chau (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood) and Emma Graham (Mount Lebanon, Pa./Mount Lebanon), sophomore Madeline Hoedemaker (Pennington, N.J./Hopewell Valley Central), and freshmen Mathea Myhrvold (Raleigh, N.C./Wakefield), Emilia Schwallie (Weston, Mass./Weston), Tiffany Tseng (Westford, Mass./Westford Academy), and Bonnie Wang (Vancouver, BC/Collingwood School). Graham earned the award for the second time.

An additional three athletes met a provisional time with all of them meeting the academic standard for Scholar All-America Honorable Mention. Junior Maddie Mianzo (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) and Lillie Widmayer (Old Bridge, N.J./West Windsor Plainsboro), along with sophomore Kierstyn Cassidy (Waynesville, Ohio/Waynesville) all receive the award for the first time.
