Tartans Place Fifth at UAA Championships

(ATLANTA, Ga.) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's swimming and diving team placed fifth at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Swimming and Diving Championships hosted by Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. The Tartans had three reach the top eight with two NCAA qualifying times reached.

Junior Bonnie Wang (Vancouver, BC / Collingwood School) swam in another championship final with a fourth-place showing in the 200-yard backstroke with an NCAA qualifying time of 2:01.81. Freshman Emma Hoffman (Ballston Spa, N.Y. / Ballston Spa) also met the qualifying time in the 200-yard backstroke by finishing in 2:02.42 to place ninth.

Senior Kierstyn Cassidy (Waynesville, Ohio / Waynesville) made the podium with a seventh-place showing in the 1,650-yard freestyle in an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 17:32.08.

Junior Mathea Myhrvold (Raleigh, N.C. / Wakefield) was the first to finish the 100-yard freestyle for the Tartans by placing 12th in 52.45.

Junior Aidan Pinto (Rockaway, N.J. / Morris Hills) swam a personal-best time in the 200-yard breaststroke and placed eighth in 2:22.95 to lead the Tartans.

A trio of Tartan first-years swam in the B Final of the 200-yard butterfly with Carolann Kimock (Old Bridge, N.J. / Saint John Vianney) leading the group with a 12th-place showing in 2:08.18.

The 400-yard freestyle relay finished the meet with a fifth-place showing. Junior Tiffany Tseng (Westford, Mass. / Westford Academy), Wang, senior Madeline Hoedemaker (Pennington, N.J. / Hopewell Valley Central), and Myhrvold finished in 3:29.89.
