#6 Tartans Finish Spring Break with 5-4 Win

(CLAREMONT, Calif.) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team, ranked sixth nationally, closed spring break with a 5-4 win over Sewanee - University of the South, on Wednesday, March 13. The Tartans are now 7-3 and return home for two matches.

The Tartans were down 2-1 after doubles play with sophomore Chelsea Motie (Melbourne, Fla./West Shore) and Bryn Raschke (Del Mar, Calif./Torrey Pines) winning in the second slot, 8-1.

Freshman Brooke Tsu (Hillsborough, Calif./Burlingame) won her No. 5 singles match is straight sets, 6-3, 6-3 while junior Katie Cecil (Huntington Beach, Calif./Ocean View) won in two sets after a first set tiebreaker, 7-6(7-4), 6-2 at No. 1 singles.

Motie rebounded from a first set 6-2 loss to win 7-6(7-1) in the second to force a third set and won 6-1 to take the point for the Tartans at No. 2 singles. Freshman Elizabeth Martin (St. Simons Island, Ga./Frederica Academy) also won in three sets 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 at No. 3 singles to help the Tartans earn the victory.

The Tartans will host Division I Robert Morris University on Wednesday, March 20 at 4:00 p.m. for their next contest.
